Well, it may be a day off for a lot of folks out there, but the Dolphins were back at work today, practicing in preparation for Sunday’s Week 1 opener against the Bills. The team also made some roster moves today, adding LB Bobby Carpenter, a fifth year player out of Ohio State and another former Cowboy. To make room for him, the team released Charlie Anderson.

Today the Miami Dolphins announced that they have terminated the contract of two players, waived 18 others, and acquired versatile offensive lineman Pat McQuistan from the Cowboys for an undisclosed draft pick.

He didn’t single out any players, but said that he did like the way that the interior of the defensive line played and that they were able to move some people around.

Between his team’s two practices today, Coach Sparano met with the media to discuss the goings-on as we (finally) close in on the first pre-season game of 2010. Early on, Sparano was asked about TE David Martin, back with the team after starring in 2008 and missing all of 2009. The coach said that he really isn’t thinking about ’08 at all and that he is just looking to create competition.

After this afternoon’s scrimmage, the coach spoke with the assembled media and there was no question that the defense got the best of the offense today. Not that that’s something to read too much into, but Tony Sparano had high praise for Mike Nolan’s unit, which was very much ahead of Dan Henning’s, at least for 50-60 plays today. The coach did say, though, that the “body of work” to this point is much more important than just this afternoon.
