The curtain closes on the 2011 season with the last of three straight AFC East opponents visiting Sun Life Stadium on Sunday. The New York Jets (8-7) come to South Florida looking to keep their playoff hopes alive, while the Miami Dolphins (5-10) hope to send the Jets back to New York disappointed. New York was riding high a few weeks ago and looked like a team that couldn’t miss a play-off berth, but back to back losses to the Philadelphia Eagles (45-19) and the cross-town rival New York Giants (29-14) have left the Jets on the outside looking in!

The tour through the AFC East continues for the Miami Dolphins (5-9) as they travel to Foxborough, MA to face the first place New England Patriots (11-3). These two teams last faced each other to open the season with the Patriots winning 38-24, and now New England is looking to extend their six game winning streak. In that week one game, these two teams combined for the most passing yards in NFL history with 906 yards.

The Miami Dolphins (4-9) travel to Ralph Wilson Stadium on Sunday to face the Buffalo Bills (5-8) in this AFC East matchup. The Dolphins won the first meeting between these two teams 35-8 on November 20th at Sun Life Stadium, and also won the last time they traveled to Buffalo 15-10 in September of last year. Miami holds the series lead 54-36-1 and this game marks the first head coaching assignment for Miami’s interim coach Todd Bowles.

The Miami Dolphins (2-7) are riding a two-game winning streak and will turn their attention towards an AFC East rival Sunday at Sun Life Stadium. Sunday will mark the 91st time Miami will face the Buffalo Bills (5-4) in the regular season, and the Dolphins will face Bills team that have lost there last two football games by a combined score of 71-18 (New York Jets and the Dallas Cowboys).

I can only imagine how frustrating it must feel for the players, coaches and fans of the Miami Dolphins on the day after’s this season. This one hurt a little bit more because it was against an AFC East rival in the New York Jets! The Dolphins played the first quarter and a half like a team that was going to shed the mistakes that has been plaguing both sides of the football.

This match-up started back in 1966 and the rivalry has heated up ever since! The New York Jets (2-3) hold the advantage in regular season wins in the series (47-43-1), but the Miami Dolphins (0-4) have won three straight on the road versus the Jets, including a 10-6 victory last December. Both teams are struggling to start the season and are desperate for a victory.
