Wilson And Dolphins Defense Primed For Patriots

082814WIlsonWith the preseason now in the books, all eyes rightfully turn to the Miami Dolphins’ Week 1 opponent in the New England Patriots. Going up against one of the NFL’s most successful franchises for the past 13 years and a hated rival will be a stern test for this promising Dolphins team, especially for the young and hungry defense.

One of the men whose role is instrumental in the success of the defense against New England’s brutally efficient offense is safety Jimmy Wilson, whose playmaking ability from the safety spot could have a huge impact on the game.

Wilson recently caught up with Greg Likens of The Finsiders, and had plenty to say about the Dolphins Week 1 adversaries. Wilson said that the key to stopping New England’s offense is to contain them. Tom Brady and Co. will complete passes, but it’s imperative that receivers are stopped in their tracks after the catch.

“Tom Brady is a good quarterback that puts the ball on guys and gives the guys a chance to run with the ball after the catch,” said Wilson. “We need to make sure that all those catches are catches and (immediate) tackles. They’re going to catch some balls, they’re a great offense, but they need to be catch and tackles. We can’t give up extra yards, and have no big plays.”

Brady and Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick are a master tacticians, but this Dolphins defense has frustrated Brady multiple times in recent seasons, and can do it again. But this defense knows they’re in for a heavyweight fight.

“We’ve played them more than enough times in my career to know what kind of game it’s going to be a “drag-em-out type of game, said Wilson. “They have a fast tempo offense, a great hall of fame coach and quarterback. We’ll be ready for those guys when they come down here, it’s going to be a great matchup.”

“The fans are really going to enjoy how the 2014 Dolphins start the year.”
