A man that may know new Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Bill Lazor better than anyone is Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles. In Lazor’s first and only season in Philly, Foles was able to elevate his play to the next level, becoming one of the league’s best and most efficient signal callers in the league, throwing for 27 touchdowns and only two interceptions en route to leading the Eagles to the NFC East division title.
Foles’ play was good enough to get him to this year’s Pro Bowl, where he took the time to speak to the Finsiders own Tristin Jones about his former QB coach. Foles spoke about Bill Lazor very glowingly, and said he was very proud of his former coach for getting a new opportunity. He knows that Lazor is a guy that is always incredibly prepared, and someone who’s a great teacher that’ll thrive as an OC in this league.
“Bill (Lazor) is a tremendous coach. He’s a guy that knows the game in and out, and one of the hardest working coaches I’ve been around,” said Foles. “Me being a quarterback, he was able to in our quarterback room make us better players, and that’s what he does. He’s very detailed in his work, he’ll give you so much information when you go into the game and then corrections during the game. He’s on top of everything. ”
“I’m very happy for Bill and his family. He’s got a great family, he’s a great father, so I’m excited for him and the Dolphins have a good coach.”
Now the marks during the season for Foles are almost unparalleled compared to other quarterbacks in NFL history. Despite only starting 10 games and getting time in 13, the University of Arizona product had a season unlike any other in league history. Foles’ 27 TDs to two picks was the league’s best ever TD/INT ratio, and he produced the 3rd best quarterback rating of all time (119.0) during the season, only being eclipsed by Aaron Rodgers (122.5 in 2011) and Peyton Manning (121.1 in 2004). And don’t forget about the ridiculous seven-touchdown performance and perfect passing rating (158.3) against the Oakland Raiders in Week 9 either.
Foles sees his success as a result of the team having success, but definitely attributes some of it to Lazor.
“He’s a great coach, and I attribute it to the team. The team did a great job. Everybody bought in, and you can’t play this game on your own. We were just small pieces me and Bill, small pieces of the puzzle,” said Foles. “We put it all together that if you play together, you have an opportunity to be successful. I think it’s just a testament to the Philadelphia Eagles, and I know he’ll tell you the same thing. It’s a team game, he’s a team guy like I am, so that how’s you win games.”
What does Foles see in store for the offense down in Miami now with Lazor at the helm? Well, they’re won’t be a lack of knowledge in the offensive meeting room, that’s for sure.
“He’s a very detailed coach with what he does so they’ll learn a lot and gain a lot of knowledge, and they’re gonna have some fun with him so it’ll be good for them.”
