Wallace Puts Wins Over Stats
By on September 13, 2013 at 4:42 pm

Wallace HartlineMike Wallace wants to make it clear he doesn’t believe personal stats come before success as a team.

After hauling in just one catch against Cleveland, it was reported that Wallace was unhappy with his role in the offense.

But on Thursday, Wallace insisted in an interview with Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald that isn’t the case.

“That would [bother] me,” Wallace said of being viewed as a selfish wide receiver.

“You don’t want to just force me the ball, because that’s not good,” he continued. “I need to get the ball. Everybody knows I need to get the ball.

“But when you have two or three people on me, you don’t want to force me the ball. We have great receivers, that if you cover them one-on-one, will make plays.”

Wallace also admitted Browns cornerback Joe Haden, who he knows all too well, deserves credit for his coverage last weekend. Wallace and Haden have been lining up against each other since the two attended Ole Miss and the University of Florida, respectively.

“For the last year and a half, I heard a lot of different things [about myself] that weren’t true,” Wallace added. “But my teammates know me. Ask any one of them about how I go about my business. After a game, it’s just a reaction of what happened in the game. Next day, it’s over.

“Winning is the thing that really matters to me. I just want to help my team. When you make plays, you feel like you help your team. I play this game for one reason: to be a great player.”
