Wallace Goes Second Overall In 2009 Re-Draft

Wallace 3It’s difficult to put a value on a player relative to his draft position, so draft “steals” and “busts” are pretty subjectively based on an individual judge’s whim.

But no matter what metric you use — individual stats, collective success — Mike Wallace far exceeded his expected value in Pittsburgh. The new Dolphins wide receiver was a third-round pick, but he made a  first-round impact.

Taking out a red pen and making “corrections” a few years after a draft can give you an idea of where players should have been drafted.’s Elliot Harrison was tasked with doing just that for the 2009 draft and decided that, with the Rams in need of a playmaking receiver, Wallace should skyrocket to No. 2 overall, an 82-spot jump.

Wallace emerged as one of the league’s premier deep threats in Pittsburgh, reeling in 235 receptions for 4,042 yards and 32 touchdowns during his four-year career.
