Wake’s Healthy Diet Translates To Performance
By on September 18, 2013 at 2:37 pm

Cam WakeDolphins defensive end Cameron Wake has had a long, winding journey to where he stands today as one of the elite pass rushers in the National Football League.

Part of that journey includes adjusting his diet in a way that many Americans would likely classify as torture, or at least extreme deprivation.

In an interview with Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Wake revealed his healthy eating ways. Since 2005, the year he left Penn State University, Wake hasn’t had even an ounce of the following: alcohol, fried food, candy or ice cream.

Eight years of no ice cream might sound rather harsh to a majority of the population, but that’s exactly why Wake insists on sticking to his stringent diet routine.

“Nutrition translates to performance, and [not eating] two cheeseburgers – for the edge it gives you, it’s worth it,” Wake said.  “I can eat cheeseburgers for 15 years [in retirement]. The difference if I ate crap could be just one inch.”

And in a game of inches, it’s difficult to blame Wake for sacrificing life’s guilty pleasures to gain the slightest advantage.
