The NFL released the 2013 schedule this evening as football fans everywhere began to plan out their Sundays (and Thursdays and Mondays) from September through January.
While most of the Dolphins’ games will be played during the day, the team has been rewarded with three primetime games in 2013: Monday Night Football games on ESPN at New Orleans (Week 4/September 30th) and Tampa Bay (Week 10/November 11th) and a Halloween-night (Thursday) match-up at Sun Life Stadium against the appropriately black and orange Bengals on NFL Network.
The Dolphins have a great history of playing under the lights since the AFL-NFL merger. Since 1970, Miami is 64-47 in scheduled night games, including a 40-37 record on Monday nights and a 4-4 mark on Thursday nights.
This will be the fourth time in five years that the Fins will appear on an NFL Network Thursday night game, having defeated the Panthers in 2009 and having lost to the Bears at home in 2010 and the Bills on the road last November.
The last time Miami appeared in three primetime games during a given season was 2010, when they lost to the Jets (Sunday night), Patriots (Monday night) and Bears (Thursday night). The previous year, Miami went 2-1 under the lights thanks to wins against the Jets and Panthers.
There is, of course, the possibility that Miami will be featured on an NBC/Sunday Night Football telecast late in the season because of flex scheduling.
