The free agency period opens on Tuesday, March 12, at 4 pm EDT, and the Dolphins, looking for offensive playmakers, are one of several teams that could potentially make a play for Steelers wide receiver Mike Wallace.
What would Wallace’s potential addition bring to the Dolphins offense?
Former Dolphins Sam Madison and Troy Drayton joined Jesse Agler to break it down from a schematic standpoint.
“He’s going to make sure that safety is over the top,” said Madison, a three-time All-Pro cornerback. “I don’t know one defensive back, not one defensive back, that’s going to say, ‘Hey, just lock me up on Mike Wallace and let me play him the whole entire game.
“…A defensive coordinator is not going to allow a defensive back to go out one-on-one with Mike Wallace because of his top-end speed. And he can make plays with his hands. He can catch the football.”
Another benefit of signing Wallace: his 4.3 speed creates space for his teammates to operate in.
“He opens up your offense,” Drayton said, “and you can actually spread people out. You force people to pretty much play honest.”
