It’s hard to miss Darren Rizzi on the Dolphins sideline – he’s one of the more animated coaches on the staff. Dolphins fans know him for his work as the team’s special teams coordinator, helping the unit transform into one of the league’s best in a few short years.
But Rizzi was also quite the player at the University of Rhode Island, where he played from 1989-92.
So good, in fact, that his alma mater has nominated him for a spot on the Rhody Grand team (Rhode Island’s All-Century team).
The former Rams tight end was named a first-team All-American in 1992, finishing the year with 72 receptions for 1,103 yards. His 2,246 career receiving yards are good for fourth on Rhode Island’s all-time receiving list.
