Reshad Jones Excited To Reunite With Ellerbe
By on March 18, 2013 at 6:21 pm

121223_JonesDespite expectations that the Dolphins would be among the league’s more active teams in free agency, signing Dannell Ellerbe, a pressure linebacker, was a bit of a surprise.

But the Dolphins were able to acquire Baltimore’s top target, adding some recent Super Bowl experience and reuniting, in the process, two college teammates.

Ellerbe played with Reshad Jones at Georgia, and the latter said he’s excited to team up with Ellerbe again in Miami.

“He’s a tremendous football player,” Jones said. “He’s going to help this team get to the playoffs and help us do some tremendous things this season.”

Jones proved he is one of the league’s better young safties with a breakout season in 2012, finishing with career highs in tackles (94), interceptions (four) and passes defended (nine). He’ll attempt to build on that success with a few new running mates on defense, including Ellerbe and fellow linebacker Philip Wheeler, who were added by the personnel staff to reinforce a young, aggressive unit.

The safety, who is entering his fourth NFL season, has taken notice of the work that GM Jeff Ireland and his staff has done this offseason.

“They’re shaping this team to be one of the greatest teams in Dolphins history — that’s what it looks like. They’re putting it together,” Jones said. “We go out and do what we do, take care of our part. It seems like they’ll take care of their part, and (then we) go out and play football. I think the fans, the players and coaching staff, everybody will be happy.”
