REPORT: Dolphins Tender Spitler, Devlin & Stanford
By on March 10, 2013 at 1:08 pm

pat-devlinWith the official start of free agency arriving at 4pm on Tuesday, the Dolphins have reportedly made some moves to retain some of their restricted and exclusive rights free agents.

Per Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post, the team has placed a low-round restricted free agent tender on LB Austin Spitler and has also tendered exclusive rights free agents Pat Devlin (QB) and RJ Stanford (CB).

These roster moves do not ensure that the players will be back in a Dolphin uniform for the 2013 season, but they do set the team up with a bit more stability heading into the offseason programs.

What does that mean? Does that mean the Dolphins decide what draft pick they are to receive as compensation if one these guys get signed by somebody else? How about expounding on that story a bit and explaining how that works? And how does it provide stability?

The Man–if you click the link to Ben’s story, he gives you some more of the details you’re looking for. And it creates stability because it (basically) ensures three players that were here last year (and in some cases longer) will be part of the OTA/mini-camps that are coming up.
