NFL Releases Offseason Workout Dates

tannehillOn Thursday afternoon, the NFL released its offseason workout program schedule, a voluntary nine-week period which is broken into three phases.

For the Dolphins, the first phase, a two-week stretch that limits activities to voluntary strength and conditioning and rehabitilitation, begins on April 15.

That will then be followed Phase Two, held the next three weeks, which consists of on-field individual player instruction and drills and also includes team practice “conducted on a separate basis.” Live contact and team offense vs. team defense drills are not permitted during this period, however.

The final portion of the voluntary offseason workout program, Phase Three, is held over the final four weeks and preceedes the mandatory veteran mini-camp. This is when the the “team” practice schedule begins to take shape, with teams holding up to 10 days of organized team practice activity (OTA’s). While teams are now able to hold team drills (7-on-7, 9-on-7, 11-on-11), live contact is still not permitted, per Article 21 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Practices open to the public will begin at the start of training camp in mid-late July.

Dolphins’ Key Offseason Dates:

First Day: April 15

OTA Workouts: May 21-23, May 29-31, June 3-6

Mandatory Minicamp: June 11-13
