Jordan Thankful For Opportunity

JordanHe may not be a starter at this point, but Dion Jordan isn’t complaining. Drafted by the Miami Dolphins out of Oregon as the third overall draft pick this past April, Jordan is still working his way into the fold in the NFL.

Last weekend against Carolina, he saw a career high 33 snaps. One of those snaps gave fans want they’ve wanted to see all along as Jordan blew off the corner and wrapped up Cam Newton for a sack.

“Any time I get a chance to go out there and contribute, it’s a good thing,” Jordan told the Finsiders on Tuesday afternoon.

Along with his time at defensive end, Jordan has also played a prominent role on kick return coverage. While some high profile draft picks may scoff at playing on special teams, Jordan simply views it as another opportunity.

“Everybody wants to get out there and compete with your guys, but like I’ve always said, I’ve got to maximize my opportunities,” he said. “If those are the only chances that I get out there, then I have to do something with those few snaps. That’s just what I’ve been trying to do.

“I just try to make the most out of those snaps also. I’d rather do something than just be sitting on the sidelines.”

As for his development, Jordan says he’s growing more comfortable with the speed of the game as the season progresses.

“Learning a lot,” he said. “The season is much longer than what I’m used to, what all the rookies are used to, so you’re learning a lot. Everything is coming at you a little bit faster than what you expected, but at the same time, you look at it, as far as where I was last year, it’s a huge blessing. You think about it—I’m in the NFL. You just try to contribute the same way as the guys that have been in the locker room for the last four or five, 10 plus years.”
