If Miami is going to make the jump, it will need to build off of the successes it had last season, by adding pieces in both free agency and the Draft to supplement the team’s core. So, with the Scouting Combine taking place this week, there’s an understandable sense of urgency at the Doctors Hospital Training Facility.
In fact, Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland said the Dolphins brought a whopping 55-man contingent to Indianapolis.
“We brought every single person in the building, so we’ve got eyes on every single player at the Combine.”
Free agency can, and likely will, affect how the Dolphins act during the Draft, meaning the player-acquisition process remains very fluid. The Dolphins may not firmly commit to pursuing a player that runs a blazing 40 speed or puts up an impressive shuttle time, but Ireland has brought enough people to get a look at just about everyone.
“We’re trying to prioritize who we’re looking at and what we’re looking at,” Ireland said. “This is an information-gathering process. No firm decisions are made during this time period. We’re just gathering all the information in and we’ll start analyzing it as the information comes in.”
