Gillislee Living A Dream With Dolphins
By on July 19, 2013 at 4:49 pm

051813_Gillislee_action_660Mike Gillislee was waiting patiently, crossing off a team every time a running back came off the board during April’s draft. He had compiled a group of teams that he thought were good fits, mostly based on need.

But the Dolphins weren’t really on his mind. They had enough depth at running back, he figured, with Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas, two relatively young players, already on the roster.

It was the dream scenario, though, for the Lakeland, Fla. native who had grown up a big Ricky Williams fan. He’d be able to continue where his whole football career has unfolded — Gillislee attended the University of Florida, to0. When the Dolphins were back on the clock in the fifth round, he wasn’t expecting to be picked, figuring they’d opt not to take a running back.

Gillislee, in an interview with The Finsiders on Friday, spoke about what came next — a surprising, life-changing few moments.

“When I saw a 954 number call, it just shocked me,” Gillislee said. “Then, two minutes later, I was a Miami Dolphin. It just brought tears to my eyes.”
