Tuesday marked the official start of the League Year, which means, truly, the 2013 season began then.
For the Dolphins, it is clearly a year of change. While 2012 was about new coach and new quarterback, ’13 is hopefully a year of growth. And that growth began with the signings of Mike Wallace, Dannell Ellerbe and Philip Wheeler, as well as the re-signings of Brian Hartline, Matt Moore and Chris Clemons, plus the application of the franchise tag to starting DT Randy Starks.
Those moves are big moves, no doubt. But they’re also just the start.
Putting aside whatever other free agent signings occur in the hours and days ahead, the NFL Draft is now just over a month away. And the Dolphins are loaded with picks.
Not only is Miami scheduled to select 12th overall, but the Dolphins currently have nine total picks including numbers 12, 42 (2nd round), 54 (2nd round), 77 (3rd round) and 82 (3rd round). That’s five picks in the top 82 that can be used or traded.
I just think that it’s important to remember that whatever does or does not happen between now and April 25th, there’s still plenty more fun ahead–to say nothing of when the new-look Dolphins eventually (and finally) take the field for the first time.
