Coach Philbin Discusses Keys To Remaining Focused
By on November 4, 2013 at 7:53 pm

teamhuddleJoe Philbin and the Miami Dolphins are back at .500 and preparing for a Monday night contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but at the moment, all of the media attention on Miami is focused on the developing situation regarding Jonathan Martin and Richie Incognito.

Philbin is confident his group will be able to tune out the outside noise and focus on continuing to improve as a football team.

“We have to remind them, and ourselves as coaches, too—we’re professionals,” Philbin said in an interview with The Finisders. “We have a job to do. And there’s one reason why we’re here as a coach, and that’s to make the players better. And the players are employed to perform on Sundays or Monday nights.

“And sometimes, let’s face it, we all, in life, have distractions within our family, things outside, things at work, a combination there of, and when we come to work, when we enter those doors, we’ve got to be all about business. We’ve got to be all about work and I think our guys have done a good job of that.”

The Dolphins have managed to focus on their business recently, when they managed to top a very good Cincinnati Bengals team on Thursday night despite various distractions and questions from the outside.

And at 4-4, Philbin admits there are things his team have done very well, while there is still plenty of room for improvement in other areas.

“We’ve got to stay focused on the task at hand,” he said. “And we’re halfway through the season, so there’s been some really good things, there’s been some things that haven’t been as good, there are certain strengths we have as a football team and obviously there are weaknesses and there are things we want to address, correct and improve upon in the second half of the season. So, it’s more about staying the course, improving, taking a look at ourselves and find ways we can get better.”
