5 Questions with Rookie Dion Jordan

JordanFirst round picks always come in with high expectations.

That statement holds true for rookie defensive end Dion Jordan, who was selected 3rd overall by the Dolphins in this year’s NFL Draft.

Jordan however wasn’t able to participate in this season’s OTAs or minicamp due to NFL rules, putting him behind the eight ball to start the season. Now he’s playing catch up, putting in as much time as he can to prepare for training camp.

He took a break from his intense offseason preparation to sit down with The Finsiders, where John Congemi asked him about his offseason so far.

(On how it feels to finally be back around the team again) – “It feels really good. That’s probably the most important thing just being around the guys. Especially just being a football player, that’s probably one of the most important things you hold onto, is your teammates. You know, just being back in the building and just being around everybody that’s hungry and working.”

(On how excited he is to get back onto the field) – “Yeah man, I’m really excited. I understand because I wasn’t able to show up, that I missed a couple things. Now that I’m here I understand that I have a few weeks to catch up and get into the film room and to ask those questions that a lot of the guys were able to ask. I have a chance to do that now. I’m gonna continue to work, I’m excited about training camp, and I’m just gonna continue to work hard and do whatever I have to do.”

(On how it feels to meet with his coaches again, so he can catch up) – “It feels really good. I do have plans on playing and coming in and helping this team out. It’s really important for me to know what’s going on out there. It’s really big for me so I can get out there and I can show these guys what I can do, so it’s something I’m just gonna have to dial in and take care of.”

(On how excited he is for that first day of training camp) –“I’m really excited. A lot of us really don’t know what to expect. But we know that we’re gonna be in an environment where everyone is pretty much focused on the same goal, and that’s making the team. Not only making the team, but just being around a core group of guys who’s willing to work towards one common goal, and that’s winning. I’m just really excited. I’m ready to get out there and compete.”

(On how important it is to get feedback from the veterans) – “I feel like it’s really important for me to ask those questions, especially if I don’t know. It’s more important for me to just prepare just as well as those guys because they’re seasoned vets. They’ve been through it numerous amounts of times. So for me, just prepare and doing the little things so I can be up there and be ready to go when my name is called.”
