One of the Dolphins players who has generated a great deal of buzz over the past several months is running back Lamar Miller. The second-year runner led the Dolphins with an impressive 4.9 yards per carry average in 2012, and is expected to see his workload increase significantly this fall following the departure of Reggie Bush. Recently Jesse Agler of The Finsiders had a chance to sit down with Miller and get insight on his mindset heading into what many believe could be a breakout season:
(On if the starting running back position is his job to lose)- “Not really, it’s an open job so whoever just comes out here and competes every day and impresses the coaches. That’s what winners are.”
(On the difference entering training camp this year as opposed to last year as a rookie)- “Just knowing my assignment and knowing where I am supposed to be at, at all times. Last year, I was a rookie so I was kind of lost just trying to get adjusted to the speed of the game and just knowing where I am supposed to be at, at all times. This year I’m expected to know everything and I am very comfortable with the system. So it should be a good advantage for me.”
(On becoming more comfortable in the Dolphins offense) – “Yes, as a rookie you’re not really too comfortable because you’ve got to know the speed of the game and try to know all your plays and stuff. Now I had a whole offseason and now I’m going through OTAs and everything, so I’m pretty down with the playbook.”
(On where he sees himself in regards to protection)– “In this league, you’re always facing bigger and faster opponents, so that’s something you gotta get better at, and just knowing the guys you’re going against. I feel like I know all my protections, but that’s just something I gotta continue to work on just to be a better back.”
(On if Ryan Tannehill has changed entering his second year)- “He didn’t change, he just became more comfortable with the system and he is getting adjusted to the speed of the game. He has been running the same offense since college and as a rookie he knew the offense. So this year I expect him to have a great season and now he has more weapons at receiving so he should have a breakout season.”
