2013 Leadership Council Revealed
By on September 4, 2013 at 1:21 pm

Cam WakeThough the Miami Dolphins again won’t have permanent team captains under Head Coach Joe Philbin, they will have another “leadership council” for the second straight season.

The council will be comprised of Ryan Tannehill, Cameron Wake, Paul Soliai, Mike Pouncey, Richie Incognito and Dannell Ellerbe, as voted by the players themselves.

“It’s a tremendous honor,” Wake told the Sun-Sentinel of his role with the council. “I’ve gone from nothing to a captain of the Miami Dolphins.”

The council will have weekly meetings with the coaching staff to speak on behalf of their teammates. Topics can range from meals to practice schedules in these meetings.

Additionally, the council will serve as the lead voices in the locker room and as the liaison between Coach Philbin and the rest of the team, ensuring the staff’s message always is clearly communicated and understood.

“It definitely is an honor, especially when the team votes you in. That means they respect you and your word a lot. Hopefully we can get up there and tell Coach our views, and we’ll hear his,” Pouncey said. “We’re there to address stuff we’re picky about, for them to hear our side, how we feel about things, and we’ll know how the coaches see things.”
