Sherman Hints Gaffney May Be Ready Soon
By on October 24, 2012 at 4:23 pm

After a few weeks of rehabilitation and a crash course in Mike Sherman’s offense, Jabar Gaffney’s time may be coming.

During his weekly press conference on Monday, Sherman sounded fairly confident that Gaffney could break into the lineup soon, perhaps even as early as Sunday’s showdown with the Jets.

“I think he’s getting there. I thought his last practice before we broke was probably the best practice,” Sherman said. “He looked like he was more comfortable with what we’re doing and then again (Monday) he looked a lot more comfortable. I guess he’s got to go 100 miles-an-hour, but they have to process and, as they’re processing, they don’t go quite as fast.

“Now, he’s stopped to processing and he’s going faster and making plays.”

Gaffney’s potential emergence as a contributor could, of course, affect Marlon Moore, who certainly filled the void at the third receiver spot against St. Louis in Week 6, adding three catches for 46 yards and a touchdown.

Sherman cautioned, though, that Moore’s role wouldn’t necessarily be marginalized if Gaffney plays.

“Marlon plays a fair amount of special teams snaps as well,” Sherman said. “He can get gassed up pretty good, so we definitely have to push forward and move Gaffney ahead of the learning curve at this point. “
