ESPN’s Todd McShay, with some reluctance, gave instant analysis on some of his standout draft classes, ranking the Dolphins’ haul fifth.
“I’m a big believer that Ryan Tannehill is going to wind up being a quarterback that’s going to start in this league and be very good,” McShay said on SportsCenter. “This is the perfect situation for him.”
McShay lauded a willingness to try to find players–Jonathan Marin, Michael Egnew, Lamar Miller, etc.–that will fit into the new offensive system that Joe Philbin and Mike Sherman will install this year.
“Knowing that they’re trying to speed things up, become a fast-paced Oregon Ducks-type NFL team,” McShay said, “they brought in players that fit that mold.”
To put the subjectivity of the instant draft evaluating into perspective, McShay’s ESPN colleague, Mel Kiper Jr., gave the Dolphins a C grade for their draft.
