Marino, Griese Discuss Peyton Manning
By on March 9, 2012 at 10:02 am

If two Dolphins legends have their way, they’ll be able to initiate another quarterback legend into their fraternity.

Dan Marino and Bob Griese recently joined The Finsiders to talk about the possibility of Peyton Manning coming to Miami.

“He handled that press conference with so much class. It’s a shame for him to not be able to finish his career there,” Marino said. “Hopefully, the Dolphins have a chance to get him.

One thing that could benefit the Dolphins during the courtship is his proximity to the team; Manning owns a condominium on South Beach.

“Well, he’s already here. That’s got to be a good thing,” Griese said. “And he’s a golfing buddy of Dan Marino, so that’s got to be two good strikes. If the Dolphins get him, I think it’s a win-win.”

Marino, who played 17 seasons for the Dolphins, had a similar nerve injury towards the end of his career. He believes that the hardest days in the road to recovery are probably behind Manning.

“It’s something that takes a little while, and for Peyton, he’s had a while that he’s been out,” Marino said. “From hearing what he’s been saying, it’s getting stronger, and it’s getting better. I figure it’s just a matter of time because he’ll be back to being healthy and being the real Peyton Manning.”

Manning certainly isn’t the only quarterback available this offseason, but Marino feels it’s a rare opportunity to sign a player with Manning’s pedigree. In essence, talent recognizes talent.

“He’s at a level that most guys have never played at,” Marino said. “If you can get a guy like that for three or four years, it’s going to give you a chance each and every year.”

It was somewhat jarring to see Manning’s divorce in Indianapolis finally happen. Griese acknowleged, though, that “this was something we could see coming.”

“Reloading, that’s not for him,” Griese said. “As tough as it is to do, it’s been done before in the NFL four or five times, where quarterbacks have moved on.”

Like many, Marino feel that the Dolphins have a nucleus that could entice Manning.

“The Dolphins have a lot of good parts,” Marino said. “They’ve got a lot of solid players on the their team that can give them a chance to win, especially with Peyton.”

Dan! Bob! Are you crazy!?!? When Peyton is in Miami, he’s ON VACATION! Sorry, let’s go for the dol-Flynn era.

I would like both Peyton Manning and Matt Flynn with Miami! Get Peyton another Superbowl to finish his great career and Matt Flynn to study a little more for a couple of years! After all, it’s been awhile since Miami has had a great quarterback and we’re overdue. Let’s have two! Just saying…

I don’t know why people are so wet on matt Flynn. He has been in the league for four years with only one start. He had one good game in Greenbay last year. Oh well what a fluke like all of the other QB’s in the league. It’s gonna be the same like every year get another worthless QB. Oh and Matt Moore, the guy had a decent year last year but all he is is a back up QB. Look at the stats the guy can barely throw over twenty yards down the field. no arm strength. Where is this team going. It looks like Peyton is more interested in Denver ot AZ. To be honest why don’t we just resign Chad Henne. The guy was ranked 11 amongst QB’s before he got injured. All we need is more O lineman to protect. Ive been a fins fan for the last 32 years and am just tired of the same ol thang. My team going nowhere. Im from the bay area, so if the fins dont do something big time its back to Oakland as a fan for me. and one other thing. if Denver picks up Peyton i bet Ross trys to trade for that loser in Tim Tebow just for ticket sales and prove that he’s all about the money and not a winning teram…………………………..

@angry fin: are you serious about resigning chad henne? I am sooooo sick of these mediocre QBs. The dolphins are going nowhere with chad henne. Top 11 in QB efficiency??? Lol…he was 0-5 as a starter!!!! We need to make a run for Manning.. I am sick of 6-10 and 7-9 seasons year after year. Please Miami..take some risks for once!
