LaCanfora Speculates on Manning’s Future

As the deadline for Peyton Manning’s roster bonus approaches, the intrigue continues to build.

NFL Network’s Jason LaCanfora recently spoke to Jesse Agler about where Manning will end up. He sees the Dolphins as a front-runner to land the likely soon-to-be former Colts quarterback.

“I’d put them right at the top of the heap,” LaCanfora said. “I’d put pretty good odds on Miami.”

While there could be tremendous risk in signing Manning, LaCanfora feels some teams desperate for a franchise-caliber quarterback may just have to roll the dice.

“Now we don’t know whether this horse is going to get in the derby,” he said. “But for some teams–like a Miami and like a Washington–with an owner with deep pockets, with a desperate situation at quarterback and, frankly, with a need to sell some star power to the fans, it might make sense to bring him in even if he isn’t 100 percent.”

Once the dust settles after the free agency period, teams still looking for a quarterback will turn to the draft. For LaCanfora–and everyone else–two quarterbacks stand above the rest.

“I think we’re going to see two quarterbacks go boom boom, and that’s going to involve a trade at second overall,” he said, referring to Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III. “We don’t see picks traded that high very often, but in this CBA it’s fiscally possible to do this.

“The money involved is not what it used to be, so there’s going to be a premium on some of these picks.”
