Joe Philbin: What the Packers are Saying
By on January 21, 2012 at 10:05 am

Last night, the Dolphins announced that Joe Philbin has been named the 10th head coach in the history of the Miami Dolphins. As news spread, several key figured from Philbin’s time in Green Bay weighed in on the man and the opportunity:

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers:

“Joe’s very important to our success. The day-to-day stuff – all the coaching responsibilities he has, installing plays and explaining plays, his role in those meetings, the way that he helps get practice run the right way – he does a ton for us.”

“As players we probably don’t even see half the stuff he does to get us ready during the week. So we’re going to miss him, we really are.”

“Joe has been a large part of my success as a player and growth as a person. I really enjoy our conversations together; (we) make sure we spend some time every Friday catching up, talking about things.”

“Joe has an incredible command of a room, he really cares about relationships and people. He’s a great teacher, a great leader.”

Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy:

“I’m very excited for Joe and Diane, I got to see them briefly. Everyone is excited. He’s worked hard for this opportunity.”

“You don’t replace people like Joe. I’m going to miss him personally a whole lot, forget as a professional. He’s someone I enjoy being around. He’s a great guy. This is a very good opportunity for him.”

“He brings a lot to the table. You’ve got to be an excellent communicator in today’s NFL; you have to be able to relate to all your people.”

Former Packers Executive Andrew Brandt:

“Worked five years with Joe Philbin. Calm, cerebral, humble and a skilled offensive mind. His style will resonate with players.”

“Dolphin fans have reason to smile. Joe Philbin’s a skilled offensive mind with great emotional intelligence in handling NFL players.”

Packers TE Jermichael Finley:

“A huge congratulations to Joe Philbin on his HEAD COACH position in Miami. No one deserves it more than this guy. The Pack will miss him!”

It sure is refreshing to hear people say nice things about our new coach. The Packers run a class organization and when they speak, I am inclined to listen. Unfortunately, we have to wait until next year to see how good he really is, but that is the best part: the anticipation. Good luck, Coach Philbin, and welcome to south Florida. I would also like to take this opportunity to express my condolences on your recent loss.
