Dolphins safety Jimmy Wilson is looking to build on his first-year successes and earn a more prominent in role in the secondary. Wilson recently spoke to the John Congemi about his expectations heading into the 2012 season. Here’s what he had to say:
On Dolphins off-season program:
“Everybody (was in Davie, Fla.) working hard. We haven’t slowed down since the day we started. We’ve got new coaches; we’ve got some new players on the team. The guys from last year, we want to come out and make sure no one is out there being lackadaisical. We want to be firing on all cylinders by the time the season starts.”
On playing multiple positions on defense:
“Last year I came into a new defense and they prepped me pretty good and it carried over into this year since I was playing three positions last year. Nothing’s really changed for me. I’m just going to work hard. We have great coaches, and they’re getting our system down pretty good. It’s going to be a good year.”
On communication between the new Defensive Coordinator Kevin Coyle and the players:
“It’s been really good. We’ve had a lot of time in meeting rooms, so everybody’s out there talking. It’s going to be a lot different than last year. We weren’t communicating as much and I think now that the secondary has been together at least a whole year, and we’ve got a lot of guys back, our communication has been great so far.”
On ‘Hard Knocks’:
“That first day when we heard about “Hard Knocks,” everybody in that practice was a little faster, everybody had a little more pop. We just decided that we have a chance to show everybody our work ethic and they can see what we’re putting on film and see how we’re trying to get better going into next year.”
