Hartline recently talked to The Finsiders about what he hopes to be an expanding role with the aqua and orange.
“I have to carry more of a weight,” Hartline said. “I’d like to get into a system here for four, five, six, eight years, and thrive in it, and win football games.”
With Joe Philbin’s coaching pedigree—the Packers finished in the top-10 in total offense each of the five seasons he was offensive coordinator—Hartline is excited to start the new season. He does feel, however, that the team needs to make a few moves first.
“We’re going to bring some guys in, get some more competition in certain areas, fill some holes and make some moves,” he said.
As far as getting caught up in personnel moves or the ever-churning rumor mill, Hartline said he’ll leave that up to the decision makers.
“It’s amazing when you trace a rumor back to where it started, it carries no validity,” the fourth-year receiver said. “…If anything where I get my information from is straight from the source. If I talk to any players, they’re going to tell me the best information.”
Before he heads back to Miami for camp, Hartline is training at his alma mater, Ohio State, where he is working on his MBA. During his off-season training in Columbus, his sibling rivalry has been taken to a whole new level.
“I’ve got the fortunate luxury of having my brother [Quarterback Mike], who unfortunately signed an off-season deal with the Patriots, living with me,” Hartline said. “So he’ll be throwing to me, and we can get some work in that way.”
