Fantasy: Week 4 Pre-game Update
By on September 30, 2012 at 11:20 am

The week 4 injury report is here, giving you all the information you need to have the best chance at success for fantasy football glory. Our fantasy guru, James Morris, provides Sunday morning updates on many players that are of interest to fantasy football owners.

Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller – RBs Bills: Word is that Jackson is likely to play, but Spiller is still a game-time decision. I have Jackson ranked as a top tier flex play this week; the best thing to do is get Spiller out of your line-up because his time on the field is going to be extremely limited even if he does play.

Jonathan Stewart – RB Panthers: Stewart is going to play and the Panthers offense has run smoother in the one game he appeared in so far this season. He is a middle of the road flex play, so be aware and beware.

Matt Forte – RB Bears: Forte is likely to be back this week, but he still has TD vulture, Michael Bush, cutting into his fantasy numbers. I have him ranked as a solid RB2 this week, and he should do a little better for those in PPR leagues.

Nate Clements and Leon Hall – CBs Bengals: Defensive Backs don’t normally make the injury report, but the Bengals are hurting in the secondary with these two staples ailing. This doesn’t make Justin Blackmon much sexier in fantasy terms, but those in deeper leagues do have to look at this if he is a viable option due to league and/or roster size.

Willis McGahee – RB Broncos: McGahee is dealing with some sore ribs, but he practiced this week and is listed as probable against the Raiders. If/when the Broncos get out in front of the Raiders via Peyton Manning, they could grind the clock down the stretch. I have McGahee as a RB2 this week.

Matthew Stafford – QB Lions: Stafford left last week’s shoot-out with a banged up hip, but he is back and ready to play against the Vikings. I have him in my top 7 for fantasy QBs this week, and see no problems starting him in any format.

Mikel Leshoure – RB Lions: Fo’ Sho’ is listed as questionable, but the Lions beat writers expect him to play. The Vikings are allowing the fewest fantasy points to opposing RBs this season at just 9.3 PPG. I see him as a low-end RB2, but would not put him in my RB slot unless I had to.

Greg Jennings – WR Packers: Jennings is back to being as healthy as he can be, and he finished off last week’s game with a TD catch that was credited to Golden Tate. I expect him to roast the Saints defense today, and have him as a WR1.

Beanie Wells – RB Cardinals: Wells is out, and Ryan Williams is in the starting line-up. Wells is averaging just 2.6 YPC this season, so the chances are he will lose his starting spot to Williams if rookie RB looks even half decent.

Laurent Robinson – WR Jaguars: Robinson suffered a concussion last week and returned to practice on Friday. Even with the Bengals missing key elements in their secondary, the Jaguars passing attack is struggling mightily and Robinson isn’t a viable fantasy option.

Dwayne Bowe – WR Chiefs: Bowe is dealing with a sore groin, but word is that he is likely to take the field against their division rivals, the Chargers. All things considered with the Chiefs, Chargers and the magnitude of this game for each team, I put Bowe as a mid-level WR2 this week.

Reggie Bush – RB Dolphins: Bush is a true game-time decision this week. Word is that Bush is going to try and play, but you can expect the coaching staff to err on the side of caution with Bush. From a fantasy standpoint, it is risky to hold out hope on Bush playing because of the late game.

Kyle Rudolph – TE Vikings: Rudolph is listed as probable with a banged up thigh. I have him as a top 10 TE this weekend, and the kid is making good on my sleeper prediction in the pre-season.

Hakeem Nicks – WR Giants: Nicks is OUT this week, and didn’t even make the trip to Philadelphia.

Ahmad Bradshaw – RB Giants: Bradshaw was never in any real danger of missing this week after Andre Brown put on a show in week 3. You can bet that Bradshaw would be on the field in a Huvaround scooter if need be! Because of Brown, Bradshaw is a flex play until we see how the roles will shake out.

Jeremy Maclin – WR Eagles: Maclin returned to a full practice on Friday, and is listed as probable against the Giants. I have Maclin ranked as a WR2/3 this week, but have some concerns about his role with Brent Celek catching Michael Vick’s eye.

Steven Jackson – RB Rams: Jackson is listed as probable, but has some fairly serious offensive hurdles to overcome before he is a true fantasy factor. The groin injury really hampered his play last week and he looked even slower than he did when healthy.

Kenny Britt – WR Titans: Britt is not going to play today, and needs to be removed from all line-ups.

Pierre Garcon – WR Redskins: Word is that Garcon is more likely to play than not, but he is certain to be on a pitch count. At best he is a WR3, but I would much rather sit him down in favor of Jon Cope’s sleeper, Leonard Hankerson, if you must play a Redskins WR.

Patriots beat writers are suggesting that C.J. Spiller might be a decoy for Fred Jackson… I wouldn’t play either if I could help it personally.
