Fantasy: Week 12 Q & A

Denver RB Ronnie Hillman could be a good fantasy option in Week 12

With Week 12 of the fantasy season getting underway early on Thursday afternoon with six teams hitting the gridiron for Thanksgiving Day action, we turn to our fantasy guru, James Morris, to answer questions atop the minds of fantasy owners this week.

Question- With Willis McGahee done for the fantasy season, who are some good RBs that I can grab off the waiver wire?

James Morris: One RB I like from his own team is Ronnie Hillman. Forget about Knowshon Moreno and Lance Ball, Hillman is the one you want there. If he is gone or doesn’t tickle your fancy, I’d give Bryce Brown from the Eagles a look. Let someone else deal with the Jalen Parmele and/or Beanie Wells problem.

Question- Chad Henne looked amazing last weekend in relief of Blaine Gabbert. With Ben Roethlisberger out, do you think he is a realistic option? If not, who do you suggest?

James Morris: I think there is a reason why Henne is a back-up for the Jaguars and not starting for them (or any other team for that matter) at this point in his career. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. I’d let someone else deal with the headache that is the Jaguars offense. If you are hurting at QB so bad that Henne is an option, look and see if Jake Locker is on the waiver wire and grab him. If he isn’t available, give Colin Kaepernick a look if he is in fact named the starter this week.

Question- With Plaxico Burress signing with the Steelers, is he going to be a good WR sleeper for a playoff stretch run?

James Morris: Can you name the Steelers starting QB this week? Don’t worry… I’ll wait. For those of you that don’t know, it will be Charlie Batch. I wouldn’t come within a country mile of any Steeler not named Rashard Mendenhall as long as Big Ben on the sidelines. If you are truly hurting at WR, see if Danario Alexander is still available in your league (unowned in just 13.2 percent of leagues). He’s put up 53 fantasy points over the last two weeks in PPR leagues, and that is HUGE for a waiver wire add this late in the season.

Question: Should I cut Rob Gronkowski or hold onto him?

James Morris: Straight to the point, I like that. Word is that he is going to push for a return in week 14 when the Patriots face off with the Houston Texans. In week 15 they face the 49ers, so Gronk wants to be in the line-up to make sure the Patriots win those games. The problem as I see it is that him returning in week 14 means he will have only missed two games, and his original timeframe for returning was 4-6 weeks.

I think it all depends on how well the offense is doing with Aaron Hernandez at TE. If the offense can keep moving the chains and putting points on the board with him out, they won’t rush him back, and a return in week 16 would be more realistic as a playoff tune-up.

And, you have to remember we are dealing with the Patriots here. I’m fairly positive the guy could be in a coma and the Patriots would list him as questionable for this week. They have a long history of telling half truth’s and whole lies when it comes to their players’ injury status.

I would say not to cut him just yet since his upside is so high and TE is such a thin position in terms of fantasy production. If there is even a possibility that he makes it back for the fantasy playoffs, you have to hold out hope.
