Edwards Thinks Hard Knocks Will Be Good For Dolphins
By on June 1, 2012 at 9:35 am

A large faction of NFL fans–the same people that believe a team will never win a Super Bowl at its home stadium, perhaps–think that signing up for HBO’s “Hard Knocks” is a death sentence.

No, none of the previous seven teams that were chronicled on the show have won the Super Bowl. It’s been more of a mixed bag, with three of the seven participants making it to the playoffs. If anything, the cause and effect relationship between doing “Hard Knocks” and on-field success is statistically insignificant.

Former Jets and Chiefs Head Coach Herm Edwards, who participated in the reality show in 2007, agrees, feeling that, from a football standpoint, doing the show can do no harm.

“It’s harmless. It’s really pretty good for an organization,” Edwards told the Palm Beach Post’s Ben Volin. “For Miami, this will probably be a good deal for them, because they’ve been under the microscope a little bit.”

“It provides good access to your football team to the fans. It takes you behind the curtain, and you really get to see how hard the players and coaches work.”

Though some may have been underwhelmed by the Dolphins’ selection for the show, Edwards said getting an up-close look at the team’s training camp–specifically the competition between Ryan Tannehill, David Garrard and Matt Moore--should be fascinating.

“You couldn’t pick a better team. Are you kidding me?” Edwards said. “You’ve got a quarterback competition, and now it’s kind of elevated because fans will get to see the practices. All of a sudden, you’re evaluating the quarterback in front of the country. That will be kind of interesting.”
