The Miami Dolphins dropped another home game and fell to 0-2 this afternoon as they were defeated 23-13 by the Houston Texans at Sun Life Stadium.
Texans quarterback Matt Schaub threw for two touchdowns and 230 yards on 21-of-29 passing while running back Ben Tate finished his day with 103 yards on the ground.
The Dolphins, who trailed 16-3 at the half, had their chances, as they saw a 22-yard Dan Carpenter field goal attempt blocked and a 34-yard attempt sail wide left in the second quarter.
Miami opened up the scoring in the second half with a 12-yard touchdown pass from Chad Henne to Brandon Marshall to cut the lead to 16-10, and then closed the gap even more when Carpenter converted a 34-yard field goal to bring the Dolphins within three at 16-13 early in the fourth quarter. Schaub’s 23-yard touchdown pass to Andre Johnson re-extended the lead, though, and the Texans would control the ball much of the final period and finish the game off without needing another score.
The Fins offense, so potent in Week 1, struggled much of the day, as Henne completed just 12 of 30 passes for 170 yards, the one touchdown, and the interception. On the ground, rookie Daniel Thomas made his season debut and ran well, collecting 107 yards on 18 carries but also fumbled in a tough spot in the second half.
Perhaps most importantly for the Dolphins, they hit the road for the first time this season next week, as they visit the 1-1 Browns, who beat the Colts 27-19 earlier this afternoon in Indianapolis. The Browns picked up a win at Sun Life Stadium in 2010, but the Dolphins, who were 6-2 on the road last year, may just need to get out of town after they’ve now lost 11 of their last 12 regular season games in South Florida.
