The Miami Dolphins ended the 2011 preseason with a 17-3 win over the Dallas Cowboys as the Fins finish the exhibition season with a 3-1 record. 19 of the Dolphins’ 22 regulars sat this one out as position battles were fought amongst many of the second and third string players.
Matt Moore took the bulk of the snaps at quarterback and finished the night 9-of-11 for 142 yards and an 18-yard touchdown pass to TE Jeron Mastrud in the third quarter. The other Dolphins’ touchdown came in the first quarter on a 22-yard run from Larry Johnson. Dan Carpenter’s 50-yard FG in the 4th was responsible for the other three Dolphins points.
The main thing in this one was health and the Dolphins fared well there. Dallas on the other hand lost WR Raymond Radway, an undrafted rookie who played at Abilene Christian with Clyde Gates, with just three seconds to go. Gates, by the way, exploded for a 41-yard reception just prior to the Mastrud TD.
The Fins must now cut their roster down from 80 to 53 by 6pm on Saturday as they get set for the season opener on Monday night September 12th against the New England Patriots.
