Dolphins Free Agency Primer
By on July 25, 2011 at 8:01 pm

With the lockout now mostly in the rearview mirror, it’s time to start looking ahead and while there has been a ton of conversation about the players the Fins may go after in free agency, we’ve spent a little less time discussing the guys that could be leaving Miami.

The NFL released the official list of free agents this evening, and the Dolphins have 11 total free agents in three different categories. Continue reading to learn more…

Restricted Free Agents who received Qualifying Offers from their Old Clubs and are subject to the First Refusal/Compensation system of the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement:

Nate Garner, OL

Garner, the versatile offensive lineman who missed all of last season because of injury, is a restricted free agent. If another team were to sign Garner, they would owe the Dolphins a second round pick in the 2012 draft.

Unrestricted Free Agents with four or more accrued seasons:

Ronnie Brown, RB

Patrick Cobbs, RB

Tony McDaniel, DL

Pat McQuistan, OL

Quentin Moses, LB

Chad Pennington, QB

Cory Procter, OL

Tyler Thigpen, QB

Ricky Williams, RB

These nine players are all unrestricted free agents and can be signed by any team, without penalty.

Players with fewer than four accrued seasons who received no Qualifying Offer or no minimum tender from their Old Club:

Joey Haynos, TE

Haynos is, in essence, an unrestricted free agent. He can be signed by any team without penalty.
