It’s been a little confusing for many Miami Dolphins fans when trying to describe what needs to happen to get that first victory of the season. Score more points, get defensive turnovers, start faster in the first quarter! I’ve heard it all this week including the success the Dolphins have had on the road, hoping it continues in Cleveland this Sunday afternoon. Well, here’s my take on what needs to happen for all of us to enjoy dinner on Sunday night!
1) Red- Zone Production – There’s nothing more frustrating then to go on a 12 or 13 play drive, and come away without scoring points! When you get opportunities inside the opponent’s 20 yard line, this team needs to capitalize. Running back Daniel Thomas may help with his rugged running style between the tackles, but I would like to see our playmakers make plays and quarterback Chad Henne become sharper in this area!
2) Dominating Defense! – I can excuse the Tom Brady lesson that was given on Monday Night Football because it looks like he going to be doing that on a weekly basis, and really only giving up 16 points to the Houston Texans because one drive started inside the ten yard line! But it’s time that this defense as a group turn in a performance close to all of our expectations during the summer! We need to see pressure on a young Colt McCoy and a run defense that makes the Cleveland Browns one-dimensional…and while I’m asking, a turnover or two would be nice as well!
3) Stay On The Attack and Third Down – I’m hoping that offensive coordinator Brian Daboll will come out and attack the Browns defense exactly the way he did against New England a couple of weeks ago. It was up tempo and everyone executed the script to perfection on the opening drive! Keep the pressure on Cleveland early and often just like we started the second half against Houston with the no-huddle, and let Chad make the adjustments, if needed , at the line of scrimmage! Six of twenty-six through two game isn’t going to get it done on third down and we should have a remedy to that problem with Davone Bess and Reggie Bush! The Miami offense must get this percentage up and by using both Bess and Bush, it should keep the offense on the field!
