John Congemi: Offensive Keys vs. Baltimore
By on November 3, 2010 at 12:01 pm

These two from the 'U' are a couple of big reasons why Baltimore's defense is so tough

The Dolphins offense has yet to score more than two touchdowns in a game this season and it might be asking a lot of them to do that this Sunday at Baltimore, against one of the top defenses in all of football. Lining up against the Ravens is always a tough test, as many of these Dolphins found out during the 2008 season, when they were twice defeated by the black birds. Both losses took place at home and one of them was a playoff game.

So what should the Fins try and do against them this week? Obviously my opinion on the matter is relatively worthless, but resident quarterback John Congemi knows a little something about putting points on the board, and he has some ideas and concepts about how the Fins can try and score some points against Ray, Ed, and friends…

It’s no secret that the Miami Dolphins offense has a stern challenge this week going up against the Baltimore Ravens defense. It is a defense that has play makers such as Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Terrell Suggs, and others.

When you look at the statistics, some of the keys for success vs. the Ravens jump right out at you! It will be critical to get positive plays on first down this week because of the success that the Baltimore defense enjoys on third down. The Dolphins have been converting at a high rate on third down (44 percent) and that trend will need to continue because Baltimore opponents have only managed to convert 26.9 percent of the time in those situations.

Its no secret that the Dolphins have been relying on the foot of kicker Dan Carpenter and this week might not be that much different. Chad Henne and company must find a way to score seven points early in this game and get Miami to play with the lead!

One touchdown instead of one field goal might be the difference between winning or losing. In the last three meetings between these two teams, Miami has won the game when they held the Ravens under 20 points (12/16/07 Miami 22, Baltimore 16 in OT), but when the Ravens score more that 24 points (in ’08, 27 points and in ’09, 27 points) the Dolphins lost both games.

The most points that the Ravens have given up this season is 23 to New England and with the way the Dolphins defense is playing, I believe the magic number is 24!
